HISTORY

Mercy Professional Services (MPS) had its beginnings in 1994 as a response to the call of the poor in the Walnut Hills area.  With the support of the Sisters of Mercy Sister, Sister Fran Repka, RSM, Ed.D., psychologist, began to work with the poor and underserved in the Walnut Hills area where a great need for affordable counseling had been researched and documented.

In 1995, three Religious Congregations (Sisters of Mercy, Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, Sisters of St. Francis) collaborated in providing the seed money to begin a formal agency.  Thus, Mercy Professional Services was born with an ecumenical staff of five.  Ten years later MPS serves with a staff of fifteen.  Approximately three hundred clients make use of the services each week.

Mercy Professional Services touches the lives of many individuals and families throughout the greater Cincinnati area.  Since its founding MPS has provided over 100,000 hours of professional counseling, predominately to the poor and underserved.  As a result, Mercy Professional Services has given over $ 6.3 million of unreimbursed care to the community, an immeasurable benefit to families and an incalculable savings to taxpayers.

Mercy Professional Services is a response to human need for healing and for growth

MISSION STATEMENT

Mercy Professional Services ministers to those who are experiencing a need for emotional healing -- regardless of color, creed, or ability to pay.  This mission is carried out through a therapeutic relationship in which  emotional, social, biological, and spiritual dynamics are integrated into the person’s/group’s journey towards healing and wholeness.

It is staffed by licensed professionals who have an understanding of developmental and multicultural issues, and who respect the unique psycho-spiritual nature of each person.  Staff are experienced clinicians in their respective disciplines.

Mercy Professional Services has an ecumenical staff.  Lay, clergy, and religious are welcome to use our services.
